Und wieder einmal wurde ich eines Besseren belehrt. Nach beinahe 3 Jahrzehnten in der Hörgeräteakustik dachte ich mir, dass mich nichts mehr überraschen kann. Falsch gedacht! I am certain – that is the big question that interests most of the readers of my blog. That is also the reason why it took so long for me to write about my first hearing impressions. Until today I do not really know how to describe the sensations. Foremost it is unbelievable that suddenly, after being quasi deaf (95% hearing loss) on my right ear since October 2020, I hear something again – this is simply mind-boggling!!!

Ich bin mir fast sicher, das ist die grosse Frage, welche die meisten Leser meines Blogs interessiert. Und das ist auch der Grund, warum ich mir etwas Zeit gelassen habe, hierüber zu schreiben. Ich bin mir nämlich bis heute nicht sicher, wie ich das in Worte fassen kann. Also zuerst einmal ist es einfach unfassbar, wenn man auf einem Ohr, auf dem man quasi taub war (Gesamt-Hörverlust von 95%), auf einmal wieder etwas hört - einfach fantastisch!!!

After returning from the Maldives I went to my ORL-clinician. Sadly he could only confirm my 90+% hearing loss on the right side. I took Cortisone and Tebukan (a Ginkgo-product that my clinician recommended) for some weeks before finally it dawned on me that my hearing on my right ear won't come back. Nachdem wir aus den Malediven zurückgekehrt waren, ging ich hier zum HNO-Arzt und musste mir leider meinen Hörverlust grösser 90% auf der rechten Seite bestätigen lassen. Nach Einnahme von Cortison und Tebukan (ein vom Arzt empfohlenes Ginkoprodukt) über mehrere Wochen, wurde mir langsam klar, da kommt nichts mehr zurück. Ich besprach mich dann zum einen mit meinem Arzt und zum anderen mit meinem ehemaligen Arbeitskollegen Heinz Werder, der heute die Geschicke der Firma Advanced Bionics...

One evening after one week on the island with super dives, super food and super company I suddenly had the feeling of water in one ear. The very next morning it became clear to me that it wasn't water blocking my ear. It was a sudden hearing loss. I knew the feeling as I experienced it already once roughly 7 years ago. Now the big question was what was the reason for it. Had it something to do with the diving or was it the sudden stress relieve due to those lovely holidays?

Meine Eltern wollten uns vor ihrem 80. Geburtstag noch etwas ganz Besonderes zeigen. So luden Sie uns, also meine ganze Familie mit Silvia und unseren zwei Jungs Nicola und Simon zusammen mit meinem Bruder Andreas und seiner Lebensgefährtin im Oktober 2019 auf eine wunderschöne Insel inmitten der Malediven ein.
